NURIEL - "Esther's Song" - A traditional Karliner melody for Purim, and one of our favourites ;)
Many of the greatest treasures in life come in small packages and are often so easy to miss or dismiss. One such gem is tucked away in the alleyways of Mea Shearim, Jerusalem.
Some years back I spent some time studying in Yeshiva in one of those alleyways. Although far from perfect, like all places, this neighbourhood has a beautiful charm to it, particularly during holiday seasons. The practice of tradition is celebrated openly, from Sukkah decorations adorning every corner during the High Holidays, to the sweet aroma of Shabbat food emanating from every home, every single Friday.
One spring afternoon, as I sat and delved into a Talmudic piece, I heard voices of children singing. As I soon beheld, peeking down at the school yard that lay just below us, dozens of children wearing the little hand-crafted paper crowns, were marching around with pride, singing this song. They sang it again and again and again. The repetitive melody circulated in me like a mantra, life-affirming, full of hope, ever-expanding. I was so moved.
I later learned that this tune has its roots in the Chassidic movement of Karlin. I have always had a deep appreciation for the Karliner Chassidim, their deep melodies, and their unique way of igniting the souls they encounter with the fire and passion of a vibrant Judaism.
Many of you may have heard us sing this song at various shows throughout the years, but this year we decided to make it Yours. So a few weeks ago, one breezy afternoon, we set out to the rolling hills of Judea and captured it for you.

For now, this is our Purim gift to all of you, near and far.
